Collecting concrete samples from the remains of the State Audit Office building: the last chance to know the cause of the collapse

More than a month has passed and there is still no answer to the “cause of the collapse”. Although there have been various analyses of the causes, there is still no conclusion. Most recently, on May 3, 2025, relevant agencies went in to drill and collect samples of cement balls to test the compression strength to see if it was as designed. There have been criticisms about the collection of cement balls that were collected only in certain areas that were complete or not.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amorn Pimanmas, President of the Structural Engineers Association of Thailand and a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University, traveled to inspect the area where the Office of the Auditor General collapsed on May 4. He commented that the work site has now demolished the remains of the building to ground level.
